Mud Shack Baby Mud Shack

http://small-scale.net/yearofmud/about/

I have heard about building these kinds of houses before and was wondering if you had. The eco village they live in in Missouri is pretty well known. Is this something you'd consider trying as a temporary venture? Do you think something like this could fit into the plan we have for our lives?

  1. I have heard about this before and know people who have spent time working/living in these kinds of places. The first picture (Gobcobatron?) Looks very cool. I've actually seen real houses that kind of look like this (brickwalls, and grass roofs) right here in PA! The second picture concerns me, his house doesn't look very good for rain, its raining here right now.

I think this is a totally cool idea. I think this is something I'd definitely be interested in trying. "Labor intensive" doesn't scare me, as I spent a lot of time in highschool building dirt jumps and digging big holes in the ground and working out water drainage, and also building less permanent spaces along streams.

Like I said the only thing that concerns me is rain, and also cold. I don't know how missouris weather is. I know they have similar things going on out in California, in very communal settings. California is probably a little warmer than Missouri.

I totally support this idea and think it would be a GREAT experience.

  2. I wonder what the deal with owning property and what the startup cost of doing something like this would be. Sarge said he wanted to build a cobb house. California would be aawweeessoomme

  3. I mean it can't be too hard finding an already existing project like this (getting into it might be a little more difficult). It can't be too hard to find super cheap property somewhere in america, or public space we could use to do this. I think it's definitely something worth looking into.

Shawn's been in California, and has been telling me about it. While I've never been there hes been picking pomegranates off of trees and swimming with sea lions. He's in Santa Barbara (his sister lives there), it sounds very nice.
